5th Training course on the use of satellite products for agrometeorological applications
The international course was held in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 16 to 20 May 2016, with the collaboration of National Hydrometeorological Department of the Environment Agency of Georgia, as local organizer. The event was organized by WMO and EUMETSAT with contributions of several institutions: FAO, European Commission, ESA, UNDP, as well as the national meteorological services of Belgium, Romania, Slovenia and Spain, and the University of Lisbon.
The event has been attended by 13 Georgian and 7 foreign students (from the national hydrometeorological services of Armenia, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine).
The course was aimed at improving the use of satellite products for monitoring of vegetation, soil conditions, the radiative balance and estimates of precipitation, along with an approach to monitoring drought with remote sensing data and development of drought indices.
The SDS-WAS Regional Center provided an insight into the dust cycle and different tools for dust monitoring and forecasting.
