We would like to announce a session with a focus on “Soil dust: Lofting, transport, characterization, and interactions with clouds and climate” which will be held jointly among the Tenth Symposium on Aerosol-Cloud-Climate Interactions and the 20th Conference on Atmospheric Chemistry at the upcoming AMS annual meeting.

We invite and welcome experimental and modelling contributions from the general areas

  • mineralogy, organic content and other constituents of soil dust sampled from source regions or directly from the atmosphere
  • emission fluxes, transport and chemical transformation of soil dust in the atmosphere, and
  • cloud, weather and climate impact, including optical properties and cloud microphysics like CCN activation and heterogeneous ice nucleation.

A more detailed session description is included in the attachment. The deadline for short abstract submission is August 1st, 2017.

The AMS meeting will take place 7-11 January, 2018, in Austin, TX.

We greatly appreciate your consideration and contribution and look forward meeting you in Austin. Please apologize cross-postings of this message, but nevertheless feel free to forward it to any of your colleagues who might be interested.

With best regards,

Ottmar Möhler (Chair), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
Naruki Hiranuma (Co-chair), West Texas A&M University, Canyon, TX
