SDS Affecting Ankara, Turkey 12 Sep 2020
A dust storm hit Turkish capital Ankara on 12th September. The storm affecting daily life began in Ankara’s Polatli district; later on, entire capital was engulfed.
The local storm occurred in the southern part of Polatli could not be detected by satellite images and SDS Forecast models. Central Anatolia Region has been going through a dry period and heatwave. Therefore, the soil dried out due to the extreme temperatures was carried with strong southern winds (80-100 km/h).
According to the reports, six people were mildly injured after strong winds bearing the dust storm. There was no report of loss of life or property. Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and firefighters mobilized and took precautions against possible adversities.
