SDS-WAS will contribute to UN Conference on sand and dust storms to be held in Tehran

SDS-WAS contributes to the International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms to be held in Tehran on 3-5 July 2017. The International Conference will be hosted by the Department of Environment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with the cooperation of the Department of relevant UN entities.

In particular, SDS-WAS contributes to session 4 (Source Recognition, Monitoring, Observation, Forecasting and Early Warning Systems) moderated by Enric Terradellas, meteorologist with the State Meteorological Agency of Spain (AEMET), with talks by Bassem Katlan, land degradation specialist at the Arab Centre for the Study of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), and Ana Vukovic, researcher from the University of Belgrade, Serbia.

Abstract:

Governments have emphasized the need to cooperate at the global and regional levels with a view to preventing and managing dust storms and sandstorms. This includes the sharing of related information, forecasting and early warning. During this session, experts will provide information on the progress made to better observe, understand and monitor atmospheric sand and dust.
